Equipment:
I use a couple of Nikon digital camera bodies mostly with 50 & 85mm primes. A couple of other bits and pieces too for good measure, but the primes are my workhorses. In addition to the digital cameras, I also have a load of old 35mm film cameras which take beautiful pictures, as well as a medium format Rolleicord which smells of pipe tobacco.
Lighting:
I use a couple of Nikon Speedlights for almost everything, the Speedlights don’t need to be plugged in which means that if you want a portrait taken at the top of Kilimanjaro , so be it, I’m your man. I also have some static daylight fluorescents for good measure (which do need to be plugged in). Daylight is beautiful too, it has been around a long time and is a proven technology.
Where:
For headshots and beauty, pretty much anywhere with a plain wall will do, I’m very mobile, I travel to wherever you are within reason. For full length images I tend to rent studio space from a variety of suppliers around Dublin. For family portraits, I prefer to shoot in the family home especially when kids are involved, because they’re often most comfortable there.
Make-Up:
I have a longstanding relationship with the LA Make-Up Academy and know a large number of graduate Make-Up Artists. The MUAs all have online portfolios or Facebook presences and their work can be assessed easily.
